Learn more about Human Resources with this introductory online course! The lessons cover the essential employment and management responsibilities of HR. This course is a helpful primer to anyone who is interested in a career in HR or considering taking HR certification courses, but may not yet have enough experience or education to take the exams. This course will boost your HR knowledge for an entry level job in HR or supplement your additional HR or Business Administration course programs.

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of essential HR practices and effective management in organizations.
  • Explain the link between business strategy and HR strategy and how HR supports the bottom line.
  • Outline current practices and procedures in HR related to compensation, benefits, training and development, employee engagement, diversity, recruitment and selection, and HR legislation and compliance.
  • Understand the terminology and tools used in managing HR practices (for example, job analysis, forecasting, interviewing, benefits selection, and HR technology).

Meet Your Instructor

Headshot of Carolyn Broderick, SHRM InstructorCarolyn Broderick, MA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, HRIP has 30+ years of experience as a Human Resources Professional and industry experience in biotech, financial services, non-profit, and healthcare. Her HR experience includes Policy and Process, Benefits, Employee Relations, Affirmative Action, Diversity, HR Technology, and Workforce Analytics. Carolyn holds an MA degree from Monmouth University and has been SPHR certified since 2000. Her other qualifications include:

  • SHRM Certification Director, Garden State Council SHRM NJ
  • SHRM National Member and Past President, Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources
  • Past Member of SHRM National HR Technology and Management Expertise Panel
  • Current Member of SHRM National Diversity and Inclusion Expertise Panel
  • Item writer for both SHRM certification and HRIP (Human Resources Information Professional) practice exams

This online course will be delivered via Webex. On or before January 11, 2021, you will receive an email with login information and a link to access the course. Electronic materials will be forwarded to the email address you provide when you register on January 11, 2021.

  • Speakers and microphone are not necessary but highly recommended as a call in option is available
