This two-hour online class will teach you how to properly prune while preserving a plant's natural vigor and beauty. Learn the science behind pruning – what, when, where, and why. Learn how to properly prune specific plants, as well as techniques for pruning.

Meet Your Instructor

Bruce Crawford, online plant pruning course instructor.Bruce Crawford

A longtime proponent of unusual and fun plants, Bruce had his own design/build garden design business for nearly 25 years that specialized in plantings for year-round interest. One of those gardens was published in Fine Gardening Magazine! For 15 years, Bruce was the Director of Rutgers Gardens, the botanical garden for Rutgers University, and he is currently the State Program Leader for Home and Public Horticulture with the NJ Agricultural Experiment Station. He has also been an instructor in the Landscape Architecture program at Rutgers University since 1987. Bruce also lectures frequently to various groups and for continuing education programs.

Credits

The March 25, 2021 offering of this course was approved for the following credits. We will reapply for similar credits the next time the course runs, but we cannot guarantee credit approval for future offerings.

**PLEASE NOTE: In order to receive recertification credits for any of our online courses, you will need to upload a photo ID and your license number before the class. You will be sent an email approximately one week prior to the class with instructions. If you do not upload this information, you will NOT be able to attend.

Accessing this Online Course

This online course will be delivered via Zoom. Registration will close on March 23, 2021. On March 24, you will receive an email with a link and instructions explaining how to access the course. On March 25, please log in to Zoom 30 minutes before the course start time for a brief overview of the online format. The course will start promptly at 1:00 pm EST.

Equipment you will need to access this training:

  • A computer, tablet, or smartphone
  • Microphone is necessary if you'd like to ask questions.
  • Webcam is optional but not necessary
  • Speaker is optional but not necessary (you will be able to listen to the presentation by dialing in on your phone if your computer does not have a speaker)

Photo ID Requirement:

Each registrant will be asked provide a photo of him/herself holding their government-issued photo ID. This is required by credit boards so that you may receive credits for participating in this online course.

  • You will receive a reminder email prior to the start of the class with further instructions. Wait to receive these instructions before you attempt to upload your ID.
  • The photo must be clear enough that we can read your name and verify that the person pictured on the ID is in fact the person holding it.
  • After an OCPE staff member reviews the picture and verifies your identity, you will have access to participate in the course when it begins.
