The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, in cooperation with the Watershed Watch Network Advisory Council, will be hosting the 6th Annual Volunteer Water Monitoring and Education Summit, November 17 and 18, 2008. This year’s Summit will be held at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Whippany, NJ.
Volunteer monitoring efforts help both citizen organizations as well as local and state officials establish watershed restoration and protection plans. Monitors can assist with implementation and also track progress in implementing these plans. The conference will showcase projects, protocols and tools that have been developed to compliment restoration efforts and sustainable management practices, bringing together volunteer watershed monitors, watershed associations, and state, local and federal agencies from across the State and around the Nation.
This year we are welcoming the watershed educators of New Jersey to the Summit. We are excited to have both under the same roof. There is a number of water monitoring and education efforts being conducted in the schools around the state and this Summit will give them a chance to share their work with the larger watershed community. Topics covered will be applicable to watershed education, school based monitoring efforts, and monitoring of all water body types – including streams, large rivers, lakes, groundwater, wetlands, estuaries, and oceans. This conference is not limited geographically.
The audience for this forum includes federal, state, local government staff, volunteers, private and public partners, watershed associations, watershed educators, academics, and all other environmental stakeholders.
