The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, in cooperation with the Rutgers EcoComplex, the Watershed Watch Network Advisory Council and the NJ Water Monitoring Council will be hosting the Water Monitoring and Education Summit, November 18 and 19, 2009 at the Rutgers EcoEcomplex in Bordentown, NJ. This year’s Summit has been expanded to include all water monitoring activities in New Jersey.
The conference will showcase projects, protocols and tools that have been developed to compliment local and state planning efforts and sustainable management practices. This Summit will cover topics applicable to watershed education, school based monitoring efforts, and monitoring of all water body types – including streams, large rivers, lakes, groundwater, wetlands, estuaries, and oceans. This conference is not limited geographically.
We would also like to again welcome the watershed educators of NJ to the Summit. There is a number of water monitoring and education efforts being conducted in the schools around the state and this Summit will give them a chance to share their work with the larger watershed community.
Volunteer monitoring efforts help both citizen organizations as well as local and state officials to better understand the unique characteristics of their watershed, to establish holistic watershed plans and to protect and restore local water bodies. These volunteers are the voice for their local waterways and critical to successfully implementing watershed restorations and protection plans. This conference brings together volunteer watershed monitors, watershed associations, educators and government agencies from across the State and around the Nation.
The audience for this forum includes volunteers, private and public partners, watershed association staff, watershed educators, academics, government staff, and all other environmental stakeholders.
