From New Jersey Turnpike (North or South)
- Turn off at Exit 9. After toll booths bear to the right; follow signs for "Route 18 North - New Brunswick."
For the College Avenue Campus
- Proceed along Route 18 North past exit for "Route 27" and take the exit marked "George Street-Rutgers University" (approximately 2.6 miles from Turnpike)(Note: This is the 2nd George st. exit).
- At the top of the exit ramp bear right onto George Street heading towards Records Hall and Alexander Library, or bear left onto George Street heading towards Old Queens, Zimmerli Art Museum and downtown New Brunswick.
For the Cook Campus
- Proceed along Route 18 North and take the exit marked "Route 1 South - Trenton".
- Proceed along Route 1 South and take the exit marked "College Farm Road."
- Proceed along College Farm Road onto the Cook Campus.
For the Douglass Campus
- Proceed along Route 18 North. After the first traffic light, take the exit marked "George St." and "Cook/Douglass Campus only". The exit ramp becomes George Street directly on the Douglass Campus near the Rutgers Arts Center, and Hickman Hall.
For the Busch/Livingston Campuses
- Continue along Route 18 North past the exits for "Route 27" and "Rutgers University"and proceed over the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge. (Approx. 3.7 miles)
- On the other side of river proceed straight at the traffic light onto Metlars Lane.
- At the first traffic light make a left on Davidson Road for the Busch Campus (proceeding toward the Administrative Services Building and Davidson Dining Hall), or make a right onto Avenue E for Livingston Campus (proceeding toward the Louis Brown Athletic Center and Beck Hall).
From Garden State Parkway (North or South)
Southbound - Coming from northern New Jersey
- Turn off at Exit 129 for the New Jersey Turnpike and head south.
- Follow directions to campus from Route 18 North, below.
Northbound - Coming from southern New Jersey
- Turn off at Exit 105 and follow signs for Route 18 North.
- After approximately 24 miles you will pass the entrance for the New Jersey Turnpike and continue on Route 18 North.

- Turn off at Exit 9 (formerly Exit 5) "River Road, Bound Brook, Highland Park".
- Proceed East on River Road toward Highland Park until you reach the fifth traffic light (approximately 3.4 miles) at the intersection of River Road, Metlars Lane and Route 18. For specific campuses follow the directions below.
For the College Avenue Campus
- Turn right at River Road traffic light onto Route 18 and cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge.
- Stay in the right lane and take the first exit which is marked "George Street - Rutgers University, New Brunswick, Route 27."
- At the traffic light at the top of the exit ramp proceed straight onto George Street toward Old Queens, Zimmerli Art Museum and downtown New Brunswick or turn right onto Huntington Street, then turn left at the first traffic light onto College Avenue for the Rutgers Student Center and Scott Hall.
For the Cook/Douglass Campuses
- Turn right at the River Road traffic light onto Route 18 and cross the Raritan River on the John Lynch Memorial Bridge.
- At the first traffic light make a right onto Commercial Avenue.
- Proceed to the first traffic light and make a left onto George Street. You are now about to enter Douglass Campus proceeding toward the Douglass College Center and the Rutgers Arts Center.
- For Cook College proceed on George Street to the first traffic light and make a right onto Nichol Avenue then follow signs onto Cook Campus.
For the Busch/Livingston Campuses
- Turn left at the River Road traffic light onto Metlars Lane.
- At the first traffic light make a left on Davidson Road for the Busch Campus (proceeding toward the Administrative Services Building and Davidson Dining Hall), or make a right onto Avenue E for Livingston Campus (proceeding toward the Louis Brown Athletic Center and Beck Hall).
Via Public Transit
Trains
- New Jersey Transit's Northeast Cooridor Line provides New Brunswick with both local and express service between New York and Newark's Penn Stations and Trenton New Jersey. (For Information 201-762-5100).
- SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority) provides service at Trenton to and from Philadelphia. (For Information 215-580-7800).
- Amtrak provides limited direct service to New Brunswick, however connections can easily be made via New Jersey Transit trains to principle Amtrak stations at MetroPark, New York and Trenton. (For Information 1-800-USA-RAIL).
Buses
New Jersey Transit Bus Routes (For Information 201-762-5100):
- M11 - Service between New Brunswick (St. Peter's Hospital) and South River (Main Street and Obert Street). This route also has a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.
- M14 - Service between North Brunswick (Fashion Plaza Mall) and Edison (Middlesex County College) with a stop at the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue Campus.
- M15/M18 - Service between Woodbridge Center and Rutgers Student Center with stops at the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue Campus, downtown New Brunswick on George Street near the Civic Square Building, and on the Douglass Campus on George Street near Cooper Dining Hall.
Suburban Transit Routes (for Information 732-249-1100):
- New York City Express - Service between Princeton and New York City with a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.
- 135 - Service between Manville and New York City with a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.
- 60 - Service between New Brunswick and Somerville with a stop at the New Brunswick Train Station.

From New Brunswick Train Station to Campus
- The New Brunswick Train Station is located at the corner of Albany Street and Easton Avenue across from the Rutgers Bookstore.
- Cab service is available from the train station.
- Campus Bus route "F" will provide direct service from the Train Station/Rutgers Bookstore to the Cook/Douglass Campus.
- For the College Avenue and Busch/Livingston Campuses proceed up Easton Avenue (short hill) and turn right on Somerset Street.
- Proceed for half a block and turn left onto College Avenue.
- On your immediate right is the historic Old Queen's Campus (part of the College Avenue Campus complex) including the Undergraduate Admissions Office in Van Nest Hall.
- Campus Bus routes "EE","F", and "L" have a stop on George Street just before Somerset Street. Take either bus to the Rutgers Student Center/Brower Commons Stop (two stops), or proceed on your own down College Avenue for four blocks to these same facilities.
- Information and directions for reaching other campuses or facilities can be obtained at either the Rutgers Student Center's Information Desk or the Campus Bus Depot.
