NJDEP Qualified Environmental Air Compliance Auditor Program

Looking to Expand Your Business?
Become Listed as an NJDEP Qualified Environmental Air Compliance Auditor!

NJDEP, in cooperation with the Rutgers Office of Continuing Professional Education, developed a series established to generate a required list of private qualified approved auditors as mandated in the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) of 1990. The Small Business Assistance Program and Small Business Environmental Ombudsman Office will provide lists of qualified auditors (outside the NJDEP) who can evaluate the consistency of a company's work practices and recordkeeping with applicable clean air requirements.

Earning a spot on this list will let potential customers know that you have completed NJDEP approved training that has prepared you to perform audits efficiently, effectively, and in keeping with all NJDEP rules and guidelines. Because the NJDEP distributes this list to individuals and organizations who are seeking capable auditors, this program provides exposure to new audiences that can turn into potential business opportunities.

If you would like to be listed as an NJDEP Qualified Environmental Air Compliance Auditor, you must do the following:

  1. Submit a letter or resume detailing your four-year degree in engineering, environmental science, environmental planning or related field to Pam Mayer (contact information below).

  2. Complete the following two (2) required seminars. (Courses attended prior to 2011 are not eligible for fulfilling these requirements):

  3. Attend either the Air Quality Permitting Seminar or Auditor's Workshop every two years. Either of these courses can serve as a refresher to keep you up to date with the latest regulatory changes to the NJDEP air program.

Substitution of Courses for NJDEP Qualified Environmental Air Compliance Auditors

If you have attended any training programs comparable to the required seminars listed above, you may request an exemption from one or more seminars in writing.
