Description

Thousands of businesses generate hazardous waste each and every day - from auto shops to pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing facilities, schools, and everything in between. It is important for employees to be aware of the federal and state requirements for handling and disposing of these wastes. They should also understand how the amount of waste they are generating can change how those requirements impact their operations. Violations of all types can lead you down the road to fines and other negative impacts – and not knowing is not a viable explanation!

Where do you and your team stand when it comes to hazardous waste knowledge? This two-day online workshop has been designed give you practical, hands-on guidance on hazardous waste management practices and compliance.

Specific topics will include:

  • A brief history of the driving regulations behind the need for proper hazardous waste management, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the recent Hazardous Waste Generator Improvement Rule (HWGIR) and its impacts;
  • Hazardous waste identification/classification and how to confirm and document your generator status;
  • Best practices for waste inventory and accumulation (including guidance on satellite accumulation);
  • Universal Wastes (UV), used oil, aerosols, and other special types of wastes;
  • Regulations regarding transportation, including waste placarding, manifests, hauler-generator responsibilities, and on-site transport requirements;
  • Training requirements, preparedness, prevention (including requisite response subcontractor agreements), and emergency procedures;
  • Reporting - including biennial reporting/exception reporting; and
  • Contingency planning, spill reporting, emergency procedures, and proper responses to releases.

Interactive exercises and discussions will reinforce the material presented in the program. Be safe, be smart, and be informed!
