Date & Time

Last Held: December 14, 2016
9:00am - 4:30pm (Check-in time: 8:30am)

Next offering tentatively planned for December 2017. Registration will open when course date is confirmed.

If you work with environmentally sensitive sites in New Jersey, it is critical that you fully understand the NJDEP's ecological evaluation process.

In this one day class, ecology expert Charles Harman will review basic ecological evaluation and risk principles and then walk you through New Jersey's ecological evaluation process using real case studies. You will learn how elements such as baseline, bioavailability, and risk management can assist in addressing potential ecological risks at your sites. Plus, you will leave class with a decision tree of approaches for investigating, managing and ultimately remediating adverse ecological concerns.

The NJDEP's Ecological Evaluation Technical Guidance document is over 125 pages and details how to conduct an Ecological Evaluation (EE) and an Ecological Risk Assessment (ERA) for environmentally sensitive natural resources (ESNR) associated with contaminated sites. This interactive class will cut through the legalese and focus on a variety of practical examples to illustrate how you should address ESNRs on contaminated sites.

It is recommended, but not required, that students first attend our Ecological Risk Assessment course.
