The Rutgers/NJAES Office of Continuing Education (OCPE) and the NJ Clean Communities Council are offering a two-day Clean Communities safety training course. The purpose of the course is to provide coordinators with the information they need to organize cleanups that adhere to safety guidelines and to learn how to effectively involve volunteers who may be unfamiliar with applicable safety procedures and regulations. Information on liability and insurance requirements as they relate to field work will also be covered.

Day One is a classroom session and Day Two will combine classroom sessions and outdoor field work (please dress appropriately).


Day One: The October 30 classroom session will be held at the Cook Student Center in New Brunswick.

Day Two: The October 31 field work day will be held at The Barge in Perth Amboy.

You must attend both days!

In addition to 1.0 Rutgers CEUS, this Clean Communities course is approved for the following credits:

NJ Certified Clean Communities Coordinators: 9 Recertification Credits

NJ Certified Recycling Professionals (CRPs): 6 Classroom credits for Day 1 only (no credits for field day)

NJ Certified Public Works Managers (CPWM): 3 Management, 3 Government for Day 1 only (no credits for field day)

NOTE: If you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies, please alert us at least one (1) week in advance of the course start date so that we can make reasonable accommodations. We cannot guarantee accommodations for special requests made after that time.


GPS systems may not recognize campus addresses. Even if they take you to the correct building, they will not take you to the assigned parking lot. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you use the directions we provide.

  • All visitors must register their vehicles online with the Rutgers Department of Transportation Services. A link will be provided in your course registration confirmation email. Be sure to complete this important step prior to traveling to campus.
  • All Rutgers faculty/staff/students must use their regular Rutgers permit and park in the nearest lot assigned for their permit type.
  • Citations/fines will be issued for failure to comply with these policies.

DAY 2:
The Barge in Perth Amboy. Attendees will be given directions to this location during class on October 30.
