The Perception of Recycling:

Why Do/Don't People Recycle?

Date

December 4, 2009
8:30am-12:00pm

Description

We have all seen it - one person will dutifully throw their plastic water bottle or soda can into the recycling bin while the next person blithely throws theirs in the trash. Frustrating, yes, irritating, yes - but have you ever wondered why?

Sean Duffy, an Associate Professor of Psychology at Rutgers - Camden will discuss his field research on this topic, recently published in the Journal Environment and Behavior. He will be joined by his colleague, Michelle Verges, who will present related findings from several field studies on the topic. Finally, information on the impacts of the "physical" aspects of recycling -- containers, placement and such -- will be discussed by Ann Moore of the Burlington County Office of Solid Waste Management.

The course will be held at the Rutgers-Camden Campus Center.
