NOTE: The Feb. 20 class session was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up on April 9, 2019 at the Rutgers EcoComplex.


Recycling has evolved from something that we do just because it is environmentally sound to something that has substantial economic and sustainability benefits as well.  Through hands-on activities and field visits to solid waste and recycling facilities across the state, this course will show you how recycling can become "asset management" and a vital part of your organization's operations.  You will learn how to perform a waste audit, understand recycling markets, increase participation rates, put efficiency to work for you and much, much more!  

Note: Days 1 and 6 will be held in the New Brunswick area; Days 2-5 will involve organized field trips to recycling and/or solid waste facilities in the  NY-NJ-PA area.


In addition to 3.6 Rutgers CEUs, this recycling certification course has been approved for the following credits:

NJ Certified Public Works Managers: 10 Technical, 10 Government

NJ Certified Recycling Professionals (CRPs): 18 Recertification Credits

GPS systems may not recognize campus addresses. Even if they take you to the correct building, they will not take you to the assigned parking lot. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you use the directions we provide.

Days 2-5 will involve organized field trips to recycling and/or solid waste facilities in the  NY-NJ-PA area. (Specific location information and directions will be provided when you register.)

Day 6 will be held in New Brunswick, NJ.


  • All visitors must register their vehicles online with the Rutgers Department of Transportation Services. A link will be provided in your course registration confirmation email. Be sure to complete this important step prior to traveling to campus.
  • All Rutgers faculty/staff/students must use their regular Rutgers permit and park in the nearest lot assigned for their permit type.
  • Citations/fines will be issued for failure to comply with these policies.

Note: Pre-registration is required. We're sorry, but we cannot guarantee a seat, materials or meals for walk-in registrants. Location is subject to change; registrants will be notified in the event of a change.
