Description

Workers involved in the recycling field face a variety of health and safety issues on a daily basis. This half-day online course was developed to present information on these hazards and to outline the "good practices" that everyone should participate in to make the workplace safe.

Specific topics will include:

  • Hazards associated with recycling
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Worker safety and equipment (field and facility)
  • Equipment maintenance procedures/recordkeeping
  • Emergency planning/plans (including hazardous wastes)
  • How to make a recycling facility the safest it can be, including public access and drop-off issues
Credits

In addition to 0.3 Rutgers CEUs, this recycling certification course has been approved for the following credits:

NJ Certified Public Works Managers (CPWM): 1 Technical, 1 Management, 1 Government

NJ Certified Recycling Professionals (CRPs): 3 Classroom Recertification Credits (NOTE: no additional documentation is required in the online course in order to receive these credits.)

Accessing this Online Course

This online course will be delivered via Rutgers' Canvas learning management system. In order to take this class, you must have a webcam with voice. Kindly note that this training is best viewed using the Chrome web browser. If you plan to access the course using a mobile device, please review this link for information: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10567. Once you register with OCPE, you will receive an email from "Rutgers University Canvas" saying, "Click here to finish the registration process" to create your new account in the Canvas platform.

You will be prompted to upload a picture of yourself holding your government-issued photo ID before you begin the course. The photo must be clear enough that we can read the name and verify that the person pictured on the ID is in fact the person holding it. An OCPE staff member will review the picture and verify your identity.

  • If this is your first time registering with us, please provide your own unique email address when registering; do not provide an email address that you share with co-workers.

  • If you have previously taken classes with us and have used an email address that you share with your co-workers or supervisor, you must update your account with a unique email address. Click the Register Online button below and sign into your account. On the left side toolbar, click My Account. On the drop-down menu, click Edit Profile/Password. Scroll down to the Email Address field (not the secondary email address field!) and enter your own, individual (not shared!) email address here. Click the Submit button at the bottom to save.
