This training program, developed through a grant with the NJDHSS, Office of Public Health Infrastructure, is tailored to the needs of county, regional and municipal health departments in New Jersey. This course is a critical component of New Jersey's public health preparedness and response plan and the State's overall homeland security efforts. Since this program has been developed specifically to provide awareness level training for local health departments, the NJDHSS expects that all local health department professional staff will complete the 40-hour certificate program. The 40-hour certificate program was designed specifically to provide awareness level training to health officers and administrators, public health nurses, health educators, registered environmental health specialists, epidemiologists, and planners at municipal, county and regional health departments based upon needs assessments for those groups. Other BT professionals at LINCS agencies, including risk communicators and IT professionals, may supplement the core training with other courses outside the 40-hour Certificate Program.
This on-line training program is hosted on the New Jersey Learning Management Network (NJLMN). Training is free but registration on the NJLMN is required to access it. The 40-hour program includes these modules:
Module 1O: Planning & Legal Aspects
Module 2O: ICS 100
Module 3O: Biological Agents of Terrorism
Module 4O: Chemical & Radiological Agents of Terrorism
Module 5O: Epidemiology
Module 7O: Emergency Risk Communication
Module 8O: Planning, Conducting & Evaluating Exercises
After completing each module, participants are required to take an assessment. A score of 70% or better is necessary to pass. Within 10 days of passing the assessment, successful completion of that module is recorded in the participant's NJLMN transcript. The transcript can be used to satisfy Health Officer and Registered Environmental Health Specialist license renewal requirements (all of the programs in the 40-hour certificate series have been approved for HO and REHS continuing education credits).
