Student Review

Richard Aschoff, REHS Exam Review Course Attendee

"Taking the review course was a great way to get me focused on the material covered in the EPH course. I would recommend this class to anyone taking the [REHS] exam - especially at the price offered!"

- Richard Aschoff,
Environment and Public Health and REHS Review Course Attendee, 2016

This 15-hour review course is designed to assist in preparation for the New Jersey REHS State Licensing exam, by synthesizing information that is curricular and extracurricular to one's prior environmental health experience. If you have taken the Rutgers' Environment and Public Health (EPH) course, have a foundation in environmental health, or are looking for continuing education credits and a refresher as a current NJ REHS license holder, this course is for you!

The NJ REHS Licensing Exam is comprised of 100 multiple-choice questions that assess your knowledge of diverse topics related to public health. To earn an REHS license, you must score at least 70% on the licensing exam. This course will help you review and refresh your knowledge of key exam topic areas, as well as provide test taking tips and strategies to increase your chances of passing.

The course is offered 100% online as a synchronous (live) course on a web-conferencing platform (eg. Zoom or Webex). Course materials will be made available on the online learning management system, Canvas. A desktop or laptop computer with webcam and microphone is recommended. However, it will be possible to participate in this course with a tablet or smartphone. We request that students have a working microphone so that they are able to ask questions directly to the instructors.

This preparatory course affords attendees access to dozens of applicable resources that have been assembled specifically for a comprehensive and focused understanding of relevant information one may expect to find on the State REHS licensing exam and working in the field. It is an intensive course that requires your participation – both during the live online sessions and in study assignments between classes. We will provide the tools, but it is up to you to ask questions during the class periods and engage with the take-home materials to really absorb the information in preparation for testing.

The course consists of live and/or pre-recorded presentations, question and answer sessions, take-home study activities and quizzes, and a practice exam focused on the following topic areas:

  • Public Health Administration
  • Communicable Disease / Epidemiology
  • Environmental Pollution
  • Public Bathing Places / Pools / Youth Camps
  • Water and Wastewater Treatment (including Disinfection, Chlorine Chemistry, Cross Connections, and Indicator Organisms)
  • Onsite Sewage Disposal Systems and Wells
  • Food Protection and Safety
  • Public Health Sanitation

The NJ REHS Licensing Exam Review Course provides a singular opportunity to engage the State's foremost experts on these topics, and the chance to ask questions on any material offered in the course, or that otherwise may be expected on the State REHS exam. The goal of our instructors is to ensure that you feel well-prepared, confident, and ready to succeed on exam day!
