Description

Federal regulations require all employees who work on sites that may expose them to hazardous substances or health hazards receive training allowing them to work safely, knowledgeably and effectively.  This one-day hands-on practical course is designed to meet the 8-hour annual refresher training requirements under OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response regulation [29 CFR 1910.120(e)].

Topics to be Covered Include:

  • Site investigation and characterization
  • New spill containment technologies
  • Hazard recognition
  • Decontamination procedures
  • Safety, health and other site hazards
  • Understanding of MSDS, Emergency Response Guidebook
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) - **Note: Students and employers are still responsible for training on the company specific PPE used.
  • Work practices that minimize risk
  • Safe use of controls and equipment
  • Air monitoring and instrumentation
  • Recognition of signs and symptoms of exposure
  • Medical surveillance

The one-day course will also address emergency response plans, confined space entry and spill containment procedures and will include applicable hands-on exercises.

Certificate of Training
A Certificate of Training and a wallet card will be provided to each participant who completes the course.

Credits

The May 17, 2016 offering of this course was approved for the following credits. We will reapply for similar credits the next time the course runs, but we cannot guarantee credit approval for future offerings.

In addition to 0.8 Rutgers CEUs, this OSHA HAZWOPER refresher course is approved for the following credits:

NJ Health Officers & REHS: Rutgers University, NJAES, Office of Continuing Professional Education has been approved by the New Jersey Department of Health as a provider of NJ Public Health Continuing Education Contact Hours (CEs). Participants who complete this education program will be awarded 3.0 NJ Public Health Continuing Education Contact Hours (CEs).

NJ Licensed Water & Wastewater Operators: 8 TCHs SAFETY (Approval number: 01-030201-31)
Please note: Under NJDEP regulations, only one-third (1/3) of the total number of TCH's needed to maintain your license can be associated with courses or events which have been approved by NJDEP as safety programs (i.e., those with course approval numbers ending in "1").

NJ Professional Engineers: 8 CPC (Continuing Professional Competency) Credits

NJ Certified Public Works Managers: 3 Technical and 2 Government

NY Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors: 8 PDHs

Location

GPS systems may not recognize campus addresses. Even if they take you to the correct building, they will not take you to the assigned parking lot. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you use the directions we provide.
