Participants will review the guidelines used for field testing backflow prevention assemblies in preparation of the ASSE re-certification exam. Specific topics will include the hydraulic workings of all backflow protectors including assemblies, devices and methods. The examination requires candidates to demonstrate competence to test four backflow assemblies (Reduced Principal Backflow Assembly RPZ, Double Check Valve Assembly DCVA, Pressure Vacuum Breaker PVB and a Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker SVB) without the use of notes or assistance.
The recertification examination, comprised of both a 25 question multiple choice written exam and a hands-on lab exam where all four different types of assemblies shall be tested without notes. The cost of the exam is included in the registration fee, as are all course materials, continental breakfast and lunch.
We encourage attendees to bring their own test gauges (if they have one). There will be enough gauges for everyone, but past experience has shown that attendees are more at ease with their own gauges, as the "HIGH - LOW and BYPASS" needle valves are positioned differently by each gauge manufacturer.
Note: This class provides renewal for American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) certified testers, surveyors, and repairers and New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) testers.
Nick Azmo has worked in the fields of backflow prevention and cross-connection control for over 30 years. A licensed master plumber in both New Jersey and Delaware, his passion for these topics led him to become a certified instructor teaching for groups as varied as the American Society of Sanitary Engineering, University of Florida's Training, Research and Education for Environmental Occupations (TREEO) Center, the Delaware Rural Water Association, the American Society of Plumbing Engineers, Rutgers University's Center for Government Services – and now Rutgers OCPE!
