N.J.A.C 7:10A, Licensing of Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment System Operators, requires all community and nontransient noncommunity public water systems to have licensed operators by October 1, 2003. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has created a license category (the Very Small Water System or VSWS license) to address the needs of most of these newly regulated systems. In order to qualify for the VSWS license, individuals must complete a 12-hour training course and pass an examination given by NJDEP (see NJ-DEP FAQ's for more information).
