Description |
PFAS - four letters that seem to be in the news everywhere you turn. What are they and why is everyone talking about them? This one-day online course has been designed to give you a strong introduction to the topic.
PFAS is an acronym for members of a broad group of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. PFAS as a group contains categories and classes of durable chemicals and materials with properties that include oil, water, temperature, chemical, and fire resistance, as well as electrical insulating properties. Since approximately the 1940's, these characteristics have led to widespread applications in industry. From clothing to cookware and from packaging to firefighting foams, they have literally been used everywhere.
Now, due to the persistent nature of these substances in the environment – and potential impacts to humans – energetic examinations of occurrences in air, water, soils, and sediment are underway, accompanied by development of possible treatment and cleanup technologies. Let us be the ones to give you the information you need to start off on the right foot as we face this new environmental challenge. Industry experts and scientists will present the facts you need for a strong footing as you plan how to best proceed!
Course Coordinator:
Chris Venezia, LSRP, is a senior operations manager with Mott MacDonald and has over 30 years of experience in the environmental consulting industry ranging from site investigation through remediation, and regulatory compliance and negotiation. He will be joined by a group of industry experts to give you up-to-date information on PFAS.

Steve Barnett, Esq., PE, CIH, MSPH Connell Foley LLP
J. Margie Gray, PE, Principal Engineer, Mott MacDonald
