This one-day seminar presents a detailed overview of New Jersey's Flood Hazard Area Control Act Rules that were adopted by NJDEP on June 20, 2016. These rules represent the most stringent statewide flood mitigation and stream-corridor protection standards in the country. NJDEP instructors, including Vince Mazzei, PE, author of these rules, will discuss the flood hazard area program in detail and answer questions regarding technical issues and regulatory requirements involved in obtaining NJDEP permits.

NJDEP instructors will provide attendees with an understanding of the flood hazard area permitting process and address design and construction standards for activities within and near surface waters, covering such topics as:

  • Newly adopted provisions and amendments
  • Riparian zone location and design standards
  • Methods to delineate flood hazard areas
  • FEMA and NJDEP flood mapping resources
  • Requirements for buildings, roads, bridges, and culverts
  • Flood storage displacement (net-fill) requirements
  • Types of flood hazard area permits and authorizations

The newly-adopted Flood Hazard Area Control Act rules can be downloaded at: www.nj.gov/dep/rules/rules/njac7_13.pdf.

Who Should Attend
This seminar is recommended for professionals who prepare flood hazard area applications such as: consulting engineers, environmental consultants, government officials, builders and contractors, health officers, planners, and attorneys.
