This one-day seminar is designed to present an overview of New Jersey’s new Flood Hazard Area Control Act Rules (N.J.A.C. 7:13) which were adopted in November 2007. Representatives from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will discuss the new rules in detail, and will answer questions regarding the technical issues and regulatory requirements involved in obtaining flood hazard area permits (formerly known as stream encroachment permits). This program will provide attendees with an understanding of the flood hazard area permitting process (from the pre-application stage through the formal review period and post-permit period) and addresses the major new changes included in the adopted new rules, such as:

The New 50-ft, 150-ft and 300-ft Riparian Zones
The 6 New Methods to Delineate a Flood Hazard Area
The 46 New Permits-by-Rule and 16 New General Permits
New Design and Construction Standards in Flood Hazard Areas
How the New Standards Apply to CAFRA and Waterfront Development Permits
Who Should Attend
This program is recommended for professionals who prepare permit applications and assumes that participants have some familiarity with the applications being discussed such as: Municipal Construction Officials, Consulting Engineers, Representatives of Public Utilities, Builders and Contractors, Municipal Engineers, Environmental Consultants, Landscape Architects, Health Officers, Planners, Attorneys, Surveyors and Real Estate Professionals.
Instructors
Faculty Coordinator, Vince Mazzei, P.E., who authored the new rules, as well as other representatives from the NJDEP, will teach the seminar and be available throughout the program to answer related questions.
