In this one-day seminar, you will learn how the coastal zone management regulations and NJ state laws affect coastal zone management through a discussion of the jurisdiction of the following coastal laws:

  • The Coastal Area Facility Review Act (CAFRA)
  • The Wetland Act of 1970
  • The Waterfront Development Act of 1914
  • Coastal General Permits

Application requirements for residential, commercial and marina development will be presented, along with discussions of delineating areas of special concern. Common problems and questions associated with permit review will be addressed.

Other Topics Include:

  • New Hot Topic! Presentation on living shorelines
  • New Hot Topic! Changes to the permitting process procedures that were adopted in July 2015
  • New Hot Topic! Changes relating to dredging and dredged material management and mitigation
  • The three coastal laws and their impact on the application process
  • Rebuilding after a storm
  • Policies and procedures on permit decision-making
  • Interrelationships of various regulatory programs in the coastal zone
  • Electronic Instant Permits

Representatives from the NJDEP - Division of Land Use Regulation (DLUR) and Office of Policy Implementation (OPI) will teach all aspects of the seminar and will be available throughout the program to answer related questions.
