This six-hour course will explain radon and radon testing procedures to home inspectors. It begins with a review of the physics behind radiation, the behavior of radon gas, and the dangers of radon and its decay products. It then discusses how to develop a proper measurement strategy and how to deploy and place measurement devices. This class will provide continuing education credits for home inspectors as approved by the Division of Licensing Services for New York State.

Topics include:

  • Physics of radon and how it affects measurement
  • Behavior of radon gas in a home
  • Health effects of radon exposure
  • Testing devices and their different applications
  • Testing procedures and protocols
  • Overview of measurement for multi-family dwellings
  • Overview of measurement for schools and large buildings
  • Radon measurement in a real estate transaction

National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP): 4 hours
