Workshops

Measurement Workshop: Key Elements of Radon Testing & QA/QC

The morning session is designed for both measurement technicians and specialists. Review the key elements of radon testing and QA/QC. Learn what common mistakes to avoid, reporting issues, tester responsibilities, conditions that affect readings and more! The afternoon session is designed for the measurement specialists ONLY and will focus on the NEW NJDEP guidance document for preparing QA/QC Plans. QA/QC guidance will be reviewed in depth to assist businesses with the 2013 full application renewal process. Discussions will focus on the importance and purpose of the QA/QC Plan resulting in an increased confidence in radon measurements and an awareness of the conditions that can cause measurement errors.

Instructor: Harry Grafton is owner of Environmental Consultations in Columbus, Ohio. Harry’s business is in radon, lead, and indoor air quality services. He has experience as a local public health official and developed one of the most effective public radon awareness, measurement, and mitigation programs in the U.S. Harry is an AARST member.

Pre-registration is required by Monday, April 22, 2013 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to limited seating, we cannot guarantee that space will be available for walk-in registrations the day of the workshop.

Mitigation Workshop: Advanced ASD Diagnostics & System Design

The morning session is designed for both mitigation technicians and specialists. The workshop addresses ASD systems as air-handling systems and uses quantitative diagnostic procedures to determine system performance requirements as a basis for system component selection and overall operating characteristics. This process enables design of cost-effective systems which adequately control radon entry without creating unnecessary installation and operating costs from over-sized systems and excessive conditioned air loss. Industry technical standards require minimizing excess energy consumption by radon mitigation systems. Increasing emphasis on energy efficiency in buildings will bring increased scrutiny of the energy impact of all building components, including mitigation systems. The afternoon session is designed for the mitigation specialist ONLY and will provide more detailed diagnostics information and expand upon the morning system design information.

Instructor: Jack Hughes has extensive experience as a radon mitigation contractor and has research-based expertise in geologic factors that impact radon flow in buildings and the effect of radon mitigation on control of indoor moisture and humidity. Jack is an AARST member.

Pre-registration is required by Monday, April 22, 2013 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to limited seating, we cannot guarantee that space will be available for walk-in registrations the day of the workshop.
