Some say the Big Apple is the center of the world. Wall Street, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Central Park, and a million other amazingly interesting people, places, and things make up the one and only New York City.

Rock legend Billy Joel sang that he was in a "New York state of mind." Classic author F. Scott Fitzgerald described NYC as a "wild promise of all the mystery and beauty in the world."

Come learn about NYC! The course will open with a discussion of the way geography and natural history led to the European settlement of Manhattan. Follow-up speakers, using maps, photos, and other visual aids, will address the cultural, economic, and political history that led to the "Big Apple" as we know it today. On the second day, we will all meet in the city and tour some of the most historical areas and landmarks of Manhattan: Battery Park, Chelsea, High Line Park, and so much more!

This program will give attendees three of the six educational credits required under the J-1 visa. Au pairs (commonly misspelled as au pere or au pear) are required to earn educational credits under the J-1 visa. Click here to learn more.
