Description

You spoke and we listened! This long-running class has been revamped for 2015 to cover even more turf as well as ornamentals. Take Day 1 only to learn IPM philosophy, monitoring, and implementing strategies – or take the full three days for a comprehensive study featuring degree day models; improving soil health; insect and disease ID; creative ways of removing unwanted pests and more! This is a core class in three certificate programs.

The full three-day range of topics will include:

  • Pesticide Toxicity and Environmental Contamination
  • IPM Philosophy
  • Fundamentals of IPM Monitoring
  • Biologically Healthy Soils
  • Key Tree and Shrub Insect/Mite Pests (ID / Life Cycles)
  • Using Growing Degree Days and Plant Phenology
  • Key Residential Turf Insect and Disease Pests
  • Pest Resistant Ornamental Plants
  • Biological Control: Recognizing & Using Beneficial Insects
  • Biotic Disease Diagnostics
  • Abiotic, Environmental, and Cultural Plant Disorders
  • Biorational Pesticides Appropriate for an IPM Program
  • Setting-Up & Designing Your IPM Program

Credits

The January 13-15, 2015 offering of this course was approved for the following credits. We will reapply for similar credits the next time the course runs, but we cannot guarantee credit approval for future offerings.

Day 1 Only: 5 units in 3A and 3B; 8 units in 13
All 3 Days: 16 units in 3A, 3B and 13

PA:
Day 1 Only: 3 credits in 00-CORE; 5 credits in 6, 7, 18, 23 and PC
All 3 Days: 3 credits in 00-CORE; 17 credits in PC; 21 credits in 7; 25 credits in 6, 18 and 23

NY:
Day 1 Only: 1.50 credits in CORE; 2.50 credits in 3A; 2.50 credits in 25
All 3 Days: 1.50 credits in CORE; 3 credits in 3B; 12.75 credits in 3A; 12.75 credits in 25

MD:
8 credits in 3A and 3C (The same credits will be awarded for attending Day 1 only or all 3 days.)

MA:
Day 1 Only: 6 hours
All 3 Days: 18 hours

DE: This course will be submitted for approved pesticide credits upon completion of the program if requested by attendees.

International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Credits
Day 1 Only: 5.5 Certified Arborist, 1.5 BCMA Science, 4 BCMA Management
All 3 Days: 16.5 Certified Arborist, 10 BCMA Science, 6.5 BCMA Management

Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES) Credits
All 3 Days: 17.25 hours
