Description

Victory gardens, home vegetable gardens born out of necessity during the food shortages of World Wars I and II, are making a resurgence. Whether you want to reduce your trips to the grocery store, productively fill your additional at-home time, minimize your carbon footprint, enjoy nutritious organic foods, or simply enjoy the wonders of nature, growing your own vegetables is extremely rewarding.

Rutgers Home Gardeners School @Home Edition's one-hour Organic Vegetable Gardening for Summer and Fall course is a perfect way to get started or rejuvenate your existing garden.

Instructor Virginia Lamb will start with discussing site selection for your beds or containers. She will then cover the many considerations for your garden plans, such as layout, succession, interplanting, and harvest. This jam-packed hour will also include information about plant and seed selection, container options and sources, planting schedules, rotating plantings for maximum harvest, and using compost to maximize your yield.

Plus, you will leave with a Rutgers Organic Vegetable Gardening Digital Resource Packet including Cooperative Extension fact sheets, class notes, and a list of helpful books and websites. This is a valuable collection that you'll be able to refer to throughout your gardening future. Register today!
