For the 59th year, a team of Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) Cooperative Extension County Agricultural Agents will be sponsoring the North Jersey Ornamental Horticulture Symposium in cooperation with the County College of Morris.

These educational programs are aimed at professionals in the green industry and feature speakers who are leading experts from Cooperative Extension, state government, and private industry.

Turf Day: Monday, January 6, 2020, 9:00am - 3:15pm

Chaired by Madeline Flahive DiNardo, County Agent II, Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension of Union County, Turf Day will feature five talks on various aspects of turf management. Current weed control trends and issues, turfgrass IPM, fertilizer labels, non-chemical options for turfgrass insect management, and pesticide calibration are a few of the topics that will be discussed.

Credits for Turf Day:

  • DEP Pesticide Recertification Units: CORE - 2 units, CAT 13 - 2 units, 1A - 6 units, 3B - 6 units, 8C - 6 units, PP2 - 6 units
  • NJ Pro-Fact Fertilizer Continuing Education Units: 3 units

You must be present for the entire day to be eligible for NJDEP credits and have your NJ pesticide applicator license number.

Tree Day: Tuesday, January 7, 2020, 9:00am - 3:15pm

Chaired by Cecilia Diaz and Jan Zientek of Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension, Tree Day has been designed to provide useful information for arborists, grounds managers, and others who are responsible for caring for trees. Tree care safety, NJ's native evergreens, tree rigging techniques, and the Spotted Lanternfly are a few of the topics that will be covered during this program. Speakers include staff from the Davey Tree Expert Company, NJ Department of Agriculture, and Rutgers NJAES.

Credits for Tree Day:

  • Anticipated NJDEP Credits: CORE - 2 units, CAT 2 - 2 units, CAT 3A - 2 units
  • ISA Credits: TBD

Chaired by Joel Flagler, County Agent I, Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension of Bergen County, Landscape Day is a great opportunity for landscape professionals to hear the latest updates on key industry topics and expand their skills in new areas. Speakers from Rutgers University, the NJDEP, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, and private nurseries will present talks on topics including native plants, diseases affecting bedding plants and perennials, and managing deer in the landscape.

Credits for Landscape Day:

  • NJDEP Credits: CORE - 2 units, CAT 1A - 4 units, 3A - 8 units, 6B - 4 units, 8C - 4 units, PP2 - 4 units
