The Family and Community Health Sciences Department of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County, in cooperation with the Ocean County Health Department will host a Children’s Health Summit – Fighting Back Against Childhood Obesity on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Holiday Inn – Toms River in Ocean County. This event focuses on understanding, prevention and treatment of childhood weight and obesity issues.
Adult health problems, like diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, are quickly becoming realities for children. Overweight kids suffer emotionally, too, facing increased risks of suicide, depression, bullying and low self-esteem. Workshop speakers will discuss the issues, present the latest research and offer solutions for parents, teachers, coaches, health care providers, counselors, and all caring adults who work with children.

The Children’s Health Summit has been approved for 4.0 CEUs for Public Health Professionals (Health Officers/REHS) by the NJDHSS and for 5.25 hours for school nurses by the NJ Department of Education. Certificates of Attendance will be provided to all attendees for submission to additional agencies for continuing education approval (such as dieticians and AAFCS members).
